Our choices are rarely cut and dry.

Sara: As the daughter of Senator and presidential hopeful Jentsen Holbrook, I
spent a good deal of my life under public scrutiny. What I wore. Where I went.
Who I dated. It was just the way of things. I’d become what was expected of
me, until I ran from my obligations and woke up one morning in Cross de
Raven’s and Eryk Hale’s world, two hot guitarists from the
mega-famous metal band, Cinder. For the first time, freedom to be myself was
within my reach. And along with that? Inevitable scandal.

Eryk: True beauty walked into my life, more beauty than I ever deserved. I partied
hard. Rocked harder. I wasn’t good enough to touch Sara’s petal-soft skin, hold
on tight, or love her, but regardless of my bad boy ways, no one was going to
stop me from trying.

Cross: Sometimes, no matter how hard we fight for what we want, love won’t save
the day, and truth doesn’t always set you free. Then again… Maybe, just maybe,
when you find the one you’ve been searching for, love can find a way.

Excerpt:

      Holy cow.
The energy swirling through the dimly lit Tacoma
Dome
was a living, pulsing entity unlike anything I’d experienced before.
Twenty thousand-plus people packed the space, chanting, “Cinder! Cinder!” while
holding lighters and cellphones in the air, so many it was as if millions of
fireflies took flight.

Briar
and I stood in the VIP section with our after party passes—the wide logoed
bracelets on our wrists—completely surrounded by warm bodies. Our bellies were
being pressed into the barrier separating us from the security personnel
outlining the front of the stage. Cobalt blue laser lights danced and smoke
rolled like fog, making the details of the stage hard to see, even from our
close vantage point.

Leaning
into me, Briar placed her forehead to mine and smiled wide. “Isn’t this fucking
awesome?”

“It
is,” I agreed.

“You
two going to slip each other the tongue?” some guy hollered from behind us.

Briar
turned, giving him her signature hip cock—are
you serious?
—lift of brow. “You’d like that, wouldn’t you?”

“Hell
yes.”

She
flipped him a not so elegant bird. “Kiss this, asshat.”

“Bri,”
I admonished, ready to throw myself in front of her if the guy went ballistic,
but he laughed and turned his attention to the stage.

In
front of us, shadows moved. The whine of a discordant guitar, followed by a
“Ba-bump. Ba-bump,” reverberated from the domed ceiling.

“Oh
my God!” Briar screeched in my ear as she latched on to my blouse, practically
jumping in place, and almost removing the short, fluttery sleeve in the
process. “This is it, babe.”

An
unbelievably deep voice bellowed out a war cry that mixed into the sound of
rumbling thunder and vibrated the floor beneath me.

Multiple
LED screens lit up the entire backstage with a picture show of a churning fire,
followed by devastating nuclear explosions. Along the side of the stage, real
flames and sparks

shot into the air
as a shirtless man, half-surrounded by a massive set of drums, lowered from
above on a lit platform—muscled arms working, leg tapping.

The
crowd went wild.

“That’s
Sayer Adler,” Bri yelled near my ear. “Isn’t he gorgeous?”

I
looked at the man pounding out a wicked beat, and decided—with his mussed, dark
hair with platinum blond tips, sporting long sideburns highlighting a strong
jaw, and a sculpted upper body covered in colorful tattoos—he was striking.

A
huge flash of light and perfectly timed kaboom
went off, drawing my gaze. As the smoke cleared, another member of the band
came into view. “That’s Kris Kline. The bassist,” my bestie informed. Then two
more men, with fingers flying over their respective guitars appeared together,
leaning back to back within their own light show. “The hottie with the mirrored
sunglasses and black tour beanie on his head is Cross de Raven. He’s lead
guitar. And the other, Mr. I’d-do-him-in-a-heartbeat, is Eryk Hale, rhythm
guitarist.”

The
two of them had this inexplicable sensuality about them in the way they swayed
together, which pretty much kept my attention trained on them until the last
guy rose up from an opening in the floor, reminiscent of a leather-clad
gladiator stopping center stage, causing the two guitarists to break apart—one
going left, the other right.

Beside
me, Briar wolf-whistled.

“Shit,
yeah! I love you, Fade,” she screamed at the top of her lungs. Then my friend,
never one to mince words, flashed sparkling eyes at me. “I so want to have that man’s baby!”

With
a saucy wink, she returned her attention back to the action, threw her arm in
the air, her fingers making devil horns, and started rocking her head, long
hair swishing about her face.

The
vocalist curled his ring-covered fingers around a freestanding microphone that
looked like a burnt, twisted twig of a tree sprouting up in front of him, which
he uprooted. I tried to soak in the experience as he did this combination of
singing and screaming about annihilation. The lights, the sound, the
penetrating vibrations, the feel of bodies in motion, and the way the members
of Cinder worked every square inch of the stage was mesmerizing. I didn’t know
much if anything about metal music, but it was clear they were talented.

Cross
ground out an amazing sound on his guitar, palm sliding across the neck,
fingers on the frets—his instrument dropping down between his muscular thighs
as he lunged. Pure,

euphoric pleasure
emanated from his handsome face, and a vivid image of him having hot, sweaty,
sheet-clawing sex came to mind.

What in the heck is wrong with me?

I
pushed the naughty thoughts aside and tore my gaze away from the guitar god,
focusing on Eryk, only to find him making love to his guitar. Gah! I needed to get my mind out of the
gutter.

Focus on something else.

I
watched the drummer again. Slipped my attention to Fade. Moved my gaze over to
the bassist. I also returned to watching Cross and Eryk. If they kept up their
current high-powered pace of stomping, jumping, and leg lunges throughout the
duration of the concert, they’d never need to darken a gym, because they were
doing some killer cardio.

When
the song ended, Fade bellowed, “How are you tonight, Tacoma?” in a gravelly
voice.

The
crowd went berserk.

I should probably mention I write erotic romance (mostly) although I have one

Tyson slowly
kneeled and took her hand in his, his touch gentle. “I know that we only have a
business arrangement, Dacey, and I have no claim on you. That being said,
despite the fact I use your services, I don’t like your job. I don’t like the
thought of other men’s hands on you, or that you have to sleep with random
strangers just to pay your bills. I once offered to help take care of you if
you would just give up that lifestyle. Why won’t you let me?”
“I’m not a
problem for you to solve, Tyson. My life may not be perfect, but it’s mine. My
trailer isn’t much, but at least I own it. And my job may not be as glamorous
as it looked on Pretty Woman, but I’m
careful.”
His hand
tightened on hers. “I don’t like it, but I know I can’t force you to quit. One
day, you’ll decide you’re ready for a respectable life, a home, and a family.
What are you going to do when that happens?”
She already
wanted those things, desperately, but how was she supposed to get away from
Carlos? She wasn’t as popular as the other girls, but she still brought him a
steady income, and he wasn’t going to let her go anytime soon. He owned her,
and there wasn’t anything she could do about it. If she went to the police to
turn him in, they’d just arrest her as well for prostitution. And she couldn’t
let Tyson go after Carlos, not with his disability. He might act all big and
tough, but she knew he was still recovering.
“No one’s
going to want a washed-up whore, so I guess I never have to worry about that.
Besides, I don’t think I can have children. Back when I first started working,
Carlos took a few months to get my birth control lined up, and he didn’t always
make the customers use a condom. I think I’d have gotten pregnant if it were a
possibility.”
She’d gotten
frequently tested during that period of her life, and she still went every
month. Of course, she also made sure her customers used condoms and refused to
service the ones who wouldn’t. It had been the cause of many fights between
Carlos and her, but knowing she wasn’t doubling her chances of an STD was worth
the beatings.
“You can’t
save me, Ty,” she said softly. “I appreciate that you want to, really I do, but
it’s too late for me. I’ve been working this job since I was seventeen. I’ve
seen things and done things that I’m not proud of, but I’ve done whatever was
necessary for me to survive. You think someone’s going to want a woman who’s
been a whore for five years? Someone who never graduated high school? What’s my
marketable skill, that I can make you come in less than a minute?”
He smiled a
little at that. “I’m not sure I would consider that skill. I like it when
things are dragged out for a while. The anticipation and incredible sensation
of feeling you wrapped around my cock are even better than coming.”
“You get my point,
though.”
Tyson
caressed her cheek and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. “I will do whatever it
takes to protect you, Dacey. Anything. If it hadn’t been for you, I probably
would have blown my head off months ago. Knowing I’d get to see you twice a
week has been the only thing keeping me going, and yeah, I know I pay for your
time, but I also know that you enjoy being with me.”
She leaned
into his touch. Just thinking about him ending his life was enough to make her
cry, and for once she was thankful for her job. If she hadn’t been a
prostitute, they never would have met. He’d gotten Carlos’s number from a
friend and she’d just been lucky to be the girl her pimp sent out that night.
Ty had made her life so much better, even if she didn’t get to spend much time
with him. They’d laughed and talked, and just genuinely enjoyed one another’s
company. He’d been so cute that first night, unsure of himself to the point of
refusing to take off his pants. It had taken her weeks to get him to undress in
front of her, and when he had, she’d taken the time to kiss all of his scars,
including what remained of his left leg.
“You’ve made
me whole again,” he said. “You never cared that I only have one leg now, or
that I’ve had more holes in me than a pin cushion. My scars don’t disgust you,
and I was finally able to see myself through your eyes and come to grips with
the body I have now versus the one I had before the explosion.”

About Paige Warren:
Paige Warren spends her days weaving
tales about alpha male cowboys and the women who love them. There’s nothing
hotter than a man in tight Wranglers and a pair of well-worn boots. You have to
admit, there’s something sexy about a man who knows how to use a rope!
A cat lover, she has more than one
furbaby running around, keeping her company in the wee hours of the morning as
she tries to find just the right way to say “His skin gleamed, the early
morning rays caressing his sun bronzed flesh, as he studied her from beneath
the brim of his Stetson.” Or, you know, something similar.
When Paige isn’t dolling out tons of
affection on the furbabies, or slurping down a pot of coffee (Yes! A whole
pot!) so she can get in her daily word count, she enjoys reading and watching
movies – romances, usually.

Welcome to Paradise, A Paradise Ranch Novella – New Release

(Depending on when you checked my blog, this post might not have been up. ) I am fighting with WordPress! (It tends to help if you pick the right year when you schedule something.) I am terribly sorry everyone.  Better late then never though, I hope!  Now that I have sufficiently embarrassed myself – let’s move on to the good stuff!

Don’t forget to read to the end of the post for a giveaway.  I’m so excited for this new release from London Saint James.

London thanks for stopping by. Can you tell us a little about what you think every story should have, in your opinion of course?

Thanks so much for having me on your blog today to talk a little bit about my new release, Welcome to Paradise. I had a great time writing this novella which is the introduction to a new western erotic romance series I’m writing called Paradise Ranch. When I sat down to start on Sutton’s story, I had a lot of ideas running around in my head, but there were a few things I tried to keep in mind, a blueprint so to speak of 10 things every story should have.

  1. Make the characters believable, likable, and relatable. Even the bad guys we love to hate have some redeeming qualities that peek through the cracks.
  2. Need chemistry between the characters.
  3. Stoke the fire and the intrigue.
  4. Got to have some drama (i.e., Bad choices, obstacles to overcome, hidden secrets, a past to come back and haunt one or more characters, love triangles, etc.)
  5. Be descriptive.
  6. Be creative.
  7. Insert some action and/or twists along the way.
  8. Add a dash of humor.
  9. Remember to also add some heartfelt emotion.
  10. Make the ending count, whether a HEA, HFN, or even an interesting cliffhanger for the next book to come. *Smiles*

Bio:

London wrote her first short story in the second grade. Her teacher informed her parents she had a big imagination, and as far as he was concerned, having a big imagination wasn’t necessarily a good thing, so she placed her vivid characters, her childhood stories, along with her imagination on the shelf, where they would wither for a while. After all, she needed to grow up and do the “sensible thing.”  Life moved on, London grew up, and the sensible thing earned London a degree in Psychology. She took a serious job in the real world, doing serious things and being a responsible adult, although the need to be a little irresponsible crept in. As a result, she started scribbling again.  Happy to find her imagination was still alive and kicking, she decided to pursue writing, walked away from doing the sensible thing, took on the world of the written word, and has never looked back!
