Hearts of Valor Anthology – Meet the Authors

461f9-heartsofvalor_ebook_cvr

Was your story inspired by a real hero or just the idea of valor?

London Saint James:

I pulled inspiration from the idea of valor. However, I may *wink, wink* have used a splash of

stoic reality from a real-life hero who I have the privilege of knowing as I wrote about Captain

Alstrom.

Jean Young:

It was inspired by a saying: “Good for good is natural; any man can do it. Good for evil is manly;

only a noble man can do.”

T.E. Hodden:

Not by a single person, but by a particular aspect of the Great War, and the lives it touched. I

would not say any specific experiences were represented by the story, and I am fairly sure a

historian would find much that was fudged for the sake of the plot.

S.L. Hughson:

The hero in my story is standing in as “any soldier.” Yes, I know many soldiers who have

returned from combat duty scarred by their experiences. In the same way as Vince Peters? Not

really. I like to think all my characters are fully created from my imagination, but I realize that

every person I meet, book I read, movie I watch and experience I have feeds my insatiable muse.

Philip Lisagor:

Going Home was inspired by the difficulties of redeployment of soldiers back to their homes and

families. This situation can be magnified by post combat stress situations which are churning and

disquieting the returning soldier.

Terri Rochenski:

My story was actually inspired by my niece’s wedding. They had decided to stay at the house

they’re renting for the first time on their honeymoon night. I thought it odd, until realizing that

not so long ago, that’s what all newly married couples did. Then, I thought, what if the new

husband was drafted off to war a few days later? My heart broke, and the story morphed from

there.

Blurbs:

The PromiseLondon Saint James

The year Veronica turned twenty-two changed her life. She graduated from San Diego State University, married the handsome Lieutenant Carter Weis—widowed six months after the happy nuptials.

Captain Quinn Alstrom of the U.S. Coast Guard was eager to start his newest post; however the excitement had nothing to do with the beautiful surroundings of Key West, and everything to do with his best friend’s wife.

Will Quinn’s surprise arrival in Veronica’s life re-spark the fire in the vivacious woman he remembered? Or, will the memory of her fallen husband stop the two of them from finding happiness?

A Manly Man Jean Young

Confederate POW, Braxton Bolton, had an unexpected visitor the day before his execution, when Arabella Anderson walked into his jail cell and, in front of other POWs, kissed him until he shook with desire.

Two years prior, she had been the Lieutenant Colonel’s prisoner. While she was tortured and raped by the other Confederate soldiers, Bolton was different. He protected her from further suffering, and the grateful young woman had come to repay his kindness.

While they became more and more intimate, she learned the story behind his kindness.

But what she learned while with her hero POW, turns the sweet girl into a fearsome warrior. One determined to save the soldier with a noble heart.

Hero of Her Heart S.L. Hughson

Nicole Taylor has loved Vincent for years. Now he’s back from serving in the Army, and she’s determined to make him see her as something other than a little sister.

After a heated Valentine’s date, Nicole is confused by Vince’s withdrawal. She confronts him, but no matter how hot their physical attraction, he keeps backing away.

Nicole helps him follow his lifelong dreams but he drifts further from her happily-ever-after plans. What will it take for him to see he is truly the hero of her heart?

Feathers T.E.Hodden

Kerry only wanted to do right by Christopher. To protect him from the whispers of ‘coward’ and the shame of a white feather.

But the war doesn’t look like a grand adventure any more. All Kerry wants is Chris home safe. But will he still be the same man she once knew?

Goin’ HomePhilip Lisagor

How will Jack be able to put Iraq behind him and return home to Leah and their two children? The green peaceful coast of Ireland is the perfect landing zone from the brown violent landscape of Mesopotamia. Jack is humping ruck along the North Atlantic coast when a chance encounter with an Irish maiden turns him all around and he hears the voice of Leah in a magical moment calling him home.

Promises Kept  – Terri Rochenski

Ever since they were kids, Joan dreamed of being Walt Herley’s wife. But, Joan’s dream is short-lived when the Korean War draft has Walt trading his groom’s suit for army fatigues. After a short celebration of their rushed nuptials, Walt is whisked away to fulfill his duty to his country, leaving Joan behind with a promise to return.

With her heart a world away, Joan struggles to keep her spirit afloat while praying for the war’s expedient end.  Fate, however, has a plan of its own, one that threatens Joan’s faith in Walt’s promise to return.

NewMM

Thanks Kelly Hashway  for mishmash Monday.

So Mishmash Monday is where you post what’s on your mind.  Here is what is on my mind and please feel free to share what is on yours.

~~~~
It’s another Monday, where did the weekend go?  Alright.  Well here is what’s on my mind.
1. My publisher is getting ready for a sale in May. I am pretty excited about this!  Please if you can, sign up to help get the word out with the thunderclap.
2. I feel like I don’t always get to talk to everyone I want to. Authors, LEAcoverreaders, etc. There just isn’t enough time in a day and everyone seems busy. Please though, if you need a shout out, a guest post, or whatever, please let me know! I would love to host you. Please send me an email to michelleziegler_co <at> hotmail <dot> com.  Please don’t feel bad asking!
3. Love Elixir Antidote just released!! Check it out. There is a blog tour going on right now!
4. I’m in the middle of editing a short story for submission.  It’s turning out to be a little bit of Rebeca’s happily ever after from Any other Way. Not sure I expected that. I’m trying to give sneak previews at my group online… check it out 🙂
5. I really want to hear from you guys! Being an author or a work from home professional gets lonely.  Please feel free to talk to me about anything!  Such  as  what are you reading?  I love finding new books!
Have a great start of your week!
Mishmash Monday – But on a Tuesday
NewMM
Thanks Kelly Hashway  for mishmash Monday.
So Mishmash Monday is where you post what’s on your mind.  Here is what is on my mind and please feel free to share what is on yours.
  1. Anyone see the Lego Movie? Please tell me someone else is in the kid movie H-E-Double Hokey Stick.  Well if not they have Freedom Friday but on a Thursday or something like that. I’ve started to tune out the majority of the movies these days. MOVING ON
  2. Where do you market? I am trying to expand where I market. I have a few avid readers of my blog and facebook, but in the end I need to try and get some new “faces”.  If you know of any hops or great groups that you wouldn’t mind sharing with me I will reciprocate. Speaking up here is a May Blog Hop with Roane Publishing.  Go sign up.
  3. What am I reading? Yeah, not really sure.  I am actually diving back into a book for a review after a few nights of being very pressed for time with working. I just finished Skydreamer by Sheryl Winters (Hot Dragon changers – really!), and I finally broke down and read the remainder of the third Hunger Games.  I want to go back to Skydreamer. It has a happy ending regardless of all the tension. Anyone want to discuss what was wrong with the end of the third Hunger Games book?
  4. My writing news. There isn’t a lot to tell at the moment. But one of my books is actually on a public shelf – library of course, not a store. This is still awesome since they chose to buy several!  You can request books be added to your local libraries through their websites. There is usually a “request books to add” form under your account. These are great ways to support authors when you are on a tight budget! You can check out what books I have written on my site or through Goodreads and Amazon. On those two sites you can follow an author to stay up on releases <hint, hint>.  Oh and I am writing away. Never fear. More stories on the way.
I think that’s enough for today.  Happy reading, writing, and enjoying life. I hear the weather is getting nicer everywhere. Spring is in the air!
Now to you, that is enough from me for one day.  What is on your mind today?
Accidental Valentine Anthology – Who’s a Romantic at Heart?
heart 2I hope everyone had the Valentine’s Day they imagined.  What… you didn’t?  Sometimes we all have grand ideas that might just have looked better in our minds.  How about the authors of the latest release from Roane Publishing?
Are you a romantic at heart or completely challenged? What is the best or worst valentine’s gift you’ve given?
Claire Gillian:
I am completely challenged, but that’s mostly because I adore the most unexpected but deeply symbolic of gestures. Best and worst Valentine was when hubby sent a barbershop quartet to serenade me at work. It was sweet but very embarrassing.
Katrina Sizemore:
I’m a romantic at heart, but when it comes to thinking up fancy gifts on Valentine’s Day, I’m a bit challenged. Instead, I focus on little things all year and anticipate what might make my husband’s days brighter. Usually for Valentine’s Day we will go out for a fancy dinner, or maybe share some chocolate in front of good TV at home.
S.L. Hughson:
I am a romantic at heart but my husband is NOT inclined to play along.
The first Valentine’s Day we dated, I got him a stuffed bear wearing a t-shirt that said, “I –heart- Jeff.” He still has it sitting on his dresser – nearly 30 years later. Now THAT’S true love! And what’s more romantic than that?
Jaylee Austin:
I am a romantic at heart, I love the idea of soul mates and the dream there is that perfect person for you in your life. The greatest valentine I’ve given is a free wish of your choice that only last twenty-four hours. And then life is back to normal, dishes, time tables, and work.
Wendy Sparrow:
A few months after we were married, Valentine’s Day rolled along. I gave my husband a silver ring that I’d found and asked him to marry me. I was absurdly nervous for someone who was already married to him. He’s generally the romantic one, despite me being a romance author, but sometimes I think I do okay.
Meet Anne – Love’s Revenge by Terri Rochenski
Meet Anne, a strong woman who can overcome anything.
Thank you Anne for joining me today.  Let’s get started on your story.
What is your biggest regret?
I’d like to say marrying Gavin MacKay, but taking that back would leave me without my best friend, my child, and my new home. Wrong choices sometimes lead to what makes us happiest. Perhaps it’s fate’s way of having mercy on us poor humans.
You are overcoming a lot of obstacles for a lady of your day. What was your biggest challenge?
The feeling of powerlessness. Society and its laws refused me a divorce, so it was either stay or escape. I chose the latter, but unlike most women of my time, I was lucky enough to have funds to help me flee England.
You started a new life out west, what was the most unexpected complication?
The initial obstacle was hiding my pregnancy from Connagher and the men for as long as possible. I knew if they found out before arriving in Montana Territory that they would send me back east – to civilization where doctors could care for me.
What do you miss about the life you left behind and what do you love most about the life you are now living?
During the freezing winter months, I most missed the new-fangled indoor plumbing, and the luxury of not needing to use a chamber pot or outhouse. Loneliness settled in during the long months as well, and I did miss having people to help escape my boredom.
Love’s Revenge
Means of Mercy #2
Sweet, Historical Romance
Publisher: Roane Publishing
Release Date: January 26, 2015
Embittered by betrayal, Anne MacKay flees London for America, where she learns she’s pregnant with her abusive husband’s longed-for heir. In a society that doesn’t protect, or afford a well-to-do wife’s desire for divorce, Anne decides there is one way to exact revenge: deny the father any knowledge of his child.
Sought after by her husband’s henchmen, Anne travels by rail and horseback, far from civilization where silk and stays are worn, let alone thought of. Lies and deceit protect her identity for a time, allowing her to birth—and grow to love—the child who was supposed to be her vengeance.
With the help of her loyal and protective business partner, Jude Connagher, and the ranch hands in their Montana Territory valley, Anne attempts to rebuild her life under the shadow of her husband’s wrath.
One unwise decision lands Anne in her pursuers’ clutches, tearing her from the ranch, her child, and her growing love for the one man who could redeem her from bitterness. She’s left with no choice but to finally face her husband, knowing her freedom and life hang in the balance.
Terri started writing stories in the 8th grade, when a little gnome whispered in her brain. Gundi’s Great Adventure never hit the best seller list, but it started a long love affair with storytelling.
Today she enjoys an escape to Middle Earth during the rare ‘me’ moments her three young children allow. When not playing toys, picking them back up, or kissing boo-boos, she can be found sprawled on the couch with a book or pencil in hand, and toothpicks propping her eyelids open.
A Woman Scorned-Light A Candle for the Beast!
There is a darker side to love sometimes and Eden’s life has been somewhat controlled by it.  I wanted to get to know her, find out about her.  Please welcome Eden, and don’t get on her bad side whatever you do.
*********
Michelle,
Thank you for sharing my story on your blog—for sharing in my plight, my obsession, my hunt.
I am Eden, though I’ve been known by many names. My story is short, but the pain, the memory that drives me, is intense, and I have no intention of stopping, of mercy, until I find the revenge I need.
You wanted to know me—know more of my story. What is it you want to ask me, Michelle? And do you have a story of your own to share?
Is there an object or possession in your life that you cherish and why?
My knife—the blade is gleaming; the hilt’s made of bone. It’s perfect for making things right—perfect for revenge…
Any pets?
Sort of. Errol, my crow, has followed me through the centuries. He’s a little more than a pet though. More of a friend…
What is your favorite place to think?
The river. It’s the most peaceful place in the world to me.
Who were you named after?
My Grandmother. She was like me. But as I mentioned, my names are ever changing…
Favorite season and why?
Autumn. When the leaves are crumpling to crisp pieces on the lawn, and the air is getting cooler, losing itself slowly to the oncoming winter. This is my favorite time of year, the season I love the most.
If you’ve ever been caught in a riptide, pulled down into the water, then you know me. Or, more accurately, what I’m like when I’m angry.
Delia was beautiful, smart, and kind. He wasn’t. He said he loved her, but he didn’t know what love was. He was manipulative and cruel—more than a thief. A beast.
All she wanted was a rose…
These are the words on my sister’s grave. Her sadness, her obsession, forever a reminder I didn’t–couldn’t save her.
I’m not vindictive or cruel. I’m simply as the river–my memory is winding and my reach is long. I watched him steal her beauty, her essence. Watched him become a beast. He thought he’d get away with it, thought he’d go free.
I lay a rose upon my sister’s grave.
Light a candle for the beast.
