Summer’s Sweet Embrace, Releases- It’s Here!

It’s summer and people usually think of visiting beaches for vacations. You might even live near a beach if you’re lucky enough. Funny though, is even though so many people flock to the ocean, it doesn’t mean they actually want to swim in it. What a more appropriate way to sneak a peek into the lives of our authors of Summer’s Sweet Embrace, a summer romance anthology.

****Don’t forget to stop at the bottom to enter Roane Publishing’s Giveaway and enter my personal Giveaway here on facebook or the web. ****

Tell us, which do you prefer. The ocean or the pool?  Don’t be shy, why do you like it?

Michelle Ziegler:

I love the idea of the ocean – but I can’t get over swimming in a very large potty. I mean, fish and manuals have to go somewhere. Oh, and don’t get me started on the idea of tiny microorganisms clamoring to stick to me. Nope. No. Not ganna happen. Plus, think about it. Crabs have 8 legs, that’s a spider on land. Another thing, sharks or barracudas anyone? And coral? Have you ever hit a coral reef – ouch. That being said, I actually love the ocean, but find the pool more relaxing.

Laurie Treacy:

This answer is easy! My story is titled “Ocean Dust,” which is the title of a song I love by the band Hands Like Houses. I based my fictional town on Montauk since it’s my favorite place to vacation. There is nothing else like the ocean. The smell of salt, the feel of the water misting my skin, walking on sand, the sound of sea gulls and ship horns. Admiring the natural beauty of crashing waves, to see morning creep across the horizon and evening slip into place. Witnessing the power of storms, rain or snow, is unforgettable. I love the ocean. It revitalizes and inspires me.

Christa MacDonald:

Even though pools have no crabs nibbling at your toes or seaweed, there is something unique about the ocean that wins out every time.  The smell of the air,  the sound of the waves crashing, and the pull of the tide all combine to create something awe-inspiring, it’s magical.

Kim Strattford:

Ocean.  Although the recent spate of shark attacks and jellyfish infestations make me leery.  I grew up swimming in a saltwater inlet and while I love pools, they just don’t have the same feeling.  But they also don’t have Jaws waiting to mistake me for a seal.  So it’s sort of a wash.  As long as I can swim, I’m happy.

Jaylee Austin:

The ocean is my favorite early morning or late evening experience. To me the ocean is a great place for reflection and daydreaming. Growing up in Gulf Shores, Alabama you could walk out far into the ocean with its crystal blue water and see the minnows nibble at your skin. As kids we’d laugh and try to catch them. I now live along the California Coast and I love the raging waves and tide pools found in Laguna Beach.

Niki Mitchell:

I prefer the ocean. There’s is nothing better than an ocean breeze, the smell of salt and sea, and the constant ebb and flow of waves to create a romantic mood.

Melissa J. Crispin:

Definitely, hands down, I prefer the pool. While I enjoy the ocean, I am paranoid of what’s lurking in the water that can’t be seen.

Sheryl Winters:

I know I’m supposed to pick one but honestly? I prefer pools to swim in and Oceans to visit.  I’m the type that will worry about what is in the ocean with me, jellyfish or sharks. In the pool, I can control the depth I want to sleep in, I can control how deep I want to go. However, if I’m going to go off into a trance and watch it for hours, I want the ocean. I want to hear the waves, breathe in that beautiful, timeless scent and let the waves lap over my feet.

Summer’s Sweet Embrace Excerpt from Truly Paradise

Here’s an Excerpt from my own Truly Paradise!

Summer's Sweet EmbraceTruly Paradise

By Michelle Ziegler

Blurb:

Waiting for the right one can be torture.  Too bad for Hailey, impatience got the best of her. Finding Mr. Right in time for a destination wedding couldn’t happen fast enough. Instead of listening to reason, or rather her friends, she’s stuck in paradise alone, again. Nothing ruins a tropical paradise faster than catching your date with another woman.

Justin’s ready for a change. He’s been caught up in his own success for too long and is looking to finally settle down. Timing is everything and his cousins wedding is the perfect start of his new life. His luck is changing with the captivating mystery woman on the beach.  Now all he has to do is find her, before he agrees to his family’s match making plot.

Excerpt:

“This is paradise, though, or so the brochure said. I’m fairly certain a woman like you could find someone better in the matter of a few hours.” He glanced back to her.

His gaze sent heat coursing through her in a way she’d never experienced, let alone expected. She couldn’t be certain the sudden wriggling in her stomach was something she’d eaten, or a good thing invoked by Mr. Beach-God. A hot burn seemed to claim her neck and kiss her cheeks. There was no suppressing the grin that spread ear to ear. No one had ever made her feel like she was an object of desire. Tossing her head, she took it in. Feminism aside, it was nice to be wanted.

He smiled back at her, a full smile that reached his eyes. “Then again, it isn’t exactly bad to have morals. I respect the fact you didn’t head straight for a bar to try and pick up on someone new. I know my roommate certainly could use a few morals for the love of my sanity.”

Is he hitting on me?

“This is Mexico. Are you implying there are a lot of desperate men here?” She leaned into him, bumping his shoulder with hers. The bit of contact sent a new sizzling flash racing over her.

The stranger’s brow knit together. “What? No. That’s not at all what I meant. I suppose it’s true though, unless there are a lot of cold showers to be had around here. Men are pretty useless around woman in bathing suits.”

About the Author:

Michelle’s imagination started spilling out onto paper the second she could scribble.  Her drawing never improved, but her love affair with words continued and evolved as she became infatuated with one story after another.  If life could be written, Michelle would write everyone’s ending as a happily ever after.

Michelle grew up in Chicago and later moved to Colorado. Her husband still makes fun of her Midwest accent. By day, she is an engineer, wife, and mother to two kids and two dogs. Her sanity survives on the pages she writes, even if her toddler is trying to drive her to the edge one temper tantrum at a time.

It’s Getting Spooky

10648285_883353390892_2067056559228077207_o

It’s one day to Halloween! I am sucker for Halloween movies, or rather ANYTHING festive.  It’s still not Christmas, but I love it.

I’ve been looking forward to Houcs Pocus, Casper, and ABC Family’s 13 nights of Halloween.  For those not in the US, sorry for being so specific.  One thing I love though, that all countries can appreciate, are cemeteries.

I don’t love them for the morbid sentiments they represent.  I don’t really love current cemeteries either. I love the history in older plots.  Europe has amazing old cemeteries.  So do a lot of the older states in the US, those pre-civil war.  Granted, it’s neat to see a lot of the old west headstones too, like Calamity Jane.  History is everywhere and sometimes the dead are the best ones to tell the story.  What the story is though, can be a mystery.

I have a new release coming out tomorrow.  Garden of Souls. It’s part of the Spooktacular Seducations Anthology.  The inspiration behind my story is actually my old neighborhood.  The cemetery I envisioned is very real, and so is the carriage house.  Granted, I don’t think the carriage house I used to babysit in was really haunted.  Well, that’s what I tell myself these days 🙂

So here are some photos by my dear friend Cheryl Fundakowski.  I would hug her for taking these photos of Hillside Cemetery.  I just don’t live close enough. It has civil war veteran’s buried here among so many more.

Stop by tomorrow for a whole bunch of giveaways for the new release.

They say love conquers all, but whoever “they” are, must not have heard of Murphy’s Law — whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.
These five tales of sweet, accidental romance prove Cupid’s arrows are a lot tougher than they seem, and sometimes it pays to be unlucky.

Falling For You by Michelle Ziegler
Darci’s ready to move on. Too bad the dating pool stinks. Until, a ghost from her past resurfaces—the man she missed out on in college.

Andrew was the one man she’d always loved, but neither of them ever made a move. But, old feelings aren’t the only thing resurfacing of late. Darci’s ex comes crawling back at the most inappropriate time, and with all the testosterone flying, she might not end up with either man.

Coffee and Cufflinks by Annabelle Blume
Fresh out of a failed relationship and exhausted by a constant barrage of fiascos at work, Olivia Johnson doesn’t see the man of her dreams standing right in front of her. She tells herself the morning coffee meet-ups with Daren are nothing but coincidence, but even she can’t deny his unequivocal attractiveness. When a night entertaining clients takes a turn for the worst, and Daren shows up where she least expects him, failure starts to look more like fate.

A Slippery Slope by Rebecca Hart
Anne Montgomery is psyched for her girl’s only weekend, despite her friends’ choice of vacation locale—the snowy slopes of Harris Peak Ski Resort—where someone as notoriously accident prone as she has no business being. When Murphy’s Law finally catches up with her, Anne is forced to consider there may be times when it pays to be unlucky.
The Shamrock Incident by London Saint James
Florist, Marissa Carmichael isn’t usually a klutz, but she’s in a hurry and having a bad day. In her haste, she loses her balance and tumbles from the back room of her shop, arms flailing. Her less than graceful entrance halted by a headfirst crash into a display case chock full of silk flowers.
Trey Cleary didn’t think his day could get any worse, until he finds. himself picking the side view mirror of his BMW up from the ground. On a mission to do something about it, he locates the flower shop matching the name on the back of the van that mangled his ‘baby’. But, his car is forgotten when a beautiful woman bursts into the room like an out of control whirling dervish, and takes one mother of a wipeout into the shop’s counter. Coming to her aid brings out the hero in him like no one he’s ever encountered, and leaves him with a need to know more.
For Marissa and Trey, this just might be the one time it pays to be unlucky.

One in a Million Snowflakes Celebration – Oh and My Birthday

It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to.  Although, I have no reason to cry.  So let’s celebrate my birthday and One in a Million Snowflakes, part of the Winter’s Sweet Kiss anthology.  Cover

The weekend for Winter’s Sweet Kiss was quiet for promotions, so I thought I’d warm things up with a giveaway.  Plus, what better way to celebrate your birthday.

So here are the super simple ways to enter.

Leave a comment about your favorite scene from my story, One in a Million Snowflakes (try not to spoil it for those that haven’t read it yet. Just something simple, like ‘When Angela makes hot chocolate’.)

OR tell me which story you look forward to reading first.  I never read anthologies in order.

Or thirdly, if you can’t make up your mind, tell me what your favorite kind of romance is, such as contemporary.Nuttypam giveaway9

What do you win you ask? A wonderful sampler of Nutty Pam’s granola, handmade right here in Colorado.  It’s cold and currently snowing.  Think it might have had something to do with the setting in the story? Anyway, that’s not all.  You also get Nick’s favorite drink, hot chocolate.  Now that you are all snuggled up with your book you’ll need a bookmark.  I’m also adding an autographed bookmark.  (please note, this giveaway is only eligible to those in the USA for various reasons.  One is international food laws and two, shipping costs.).

So leave me a comment and your email so I can contact the winner.  Happy Holidays and happy reading.  You have until midnight MST on the 24th to enter.

Don’t forget the giveaway for Winter’s Sweet Kiss.  A paper copy of the book and a gift card!

It’s Here! Winter’s Sweet Kiss Release

Who’s singing Christmas carols?  Admit it.  There’s something about the holidays and cold winter nights. Something about holiday themes and the excitement they incite.  The authors of Winter’s Sweet Kiss, a sweet romance anthology, would know! Their stories will warm your hearts and take the chill out of your evenings.

I asked the author’s, and myself, what is their favorite holiday song, book, or movie.  Here’s new release smallera glimpse into what makes the holidays for them.

Don’t forget to tell us your favorite and also enter to win a gift card and paper copy (hint, the entry is at the bottom of this post)!

Michelle Ziegler:
The list is huge, but the one song that gets me happy no matter what is Have a Holly Jolly Christmas. I can’t not sing to this and it sums up my feelings. Maybe you can’t guarantee everything will be perfect, but it’s the best time of the year!

Shaya Roy:
I like the movie ‘Love Actually’. Mostly because of Jamie and Aurelia’s story. I love how they’re answering each other’s statements even though neither speaks or understands the other’s language. And that proposal was the cutest ever. And Colin Firth! Need I say more?

Lily Carlyle:
I could write an entire book on this; I think I love every holiday movie ever made, and I could list many books and songs I love as well (I can’t pretend to know all of those!). However, my current favorite book is Earl Hamner, Jr.’s The Homecoming: A Novel About Spencer’s Mountain. For those of you who did not grow up in the 1970s, this is the book on which the made for TV movie The Homecoming: A Christmas Story was based. And of course, that led to the long-running TV series The Waltons. Good night, John Boy.

Since living in the South, I’ve become fascinated with the southern Appalachians, and I’ve always been interested in the Great Depression, so I had a feeling I’d love the book. I waited weeks for the lone, yellowed copy owned by my local public library and enjoyed reading it aloud to my younger daughter. Unfortunately, she didn’t enjoy it as much as I did.

While verifying precise titles for this post, I discovered there was an earlier, 1963 movie (Spencer’s Mountain) based on the book, starring Henry Fonda. Guess what my mission is for this holiday season?

Terri Rochenski:
I’m going to go with holiday song – Baby It’s Cold Outside. My husband is ALWAYS singing a line here & there, and my girls chime in once they realize what he’s singing. Each time they break into song, I get a big smile on my face.

Annabelle Blume:
I absolutely love A Christmas Story. It’s fun, silly, and carries the slightest bit of romanticism. My sister and I loved watching the 24 hour loop they aired on Christmas day when we were teenagers. I wish I could pick a favorite line, but there are so many! I did manage to teach all my kids “Meat loaf, smeat loaf, double beat loaf, I hate meat loaf.” Oh, and my husband continues to threaten to get a tattoo of the famous Leg Lamp. Obviously, I’m not the only one in the family who loves the movie.

BEGINNING OF FOREVER By Terri Rochenski
Blurb:
When Wayne Edwards moves to town, Lillian Douglas experiences stirrings she thought were long dead. Guilt ridden over betraying her deceased husband and the feelings Wayne inspires, Lillian reluctantly lets him in. Secrets of the past – an old promise emerges, but will it threaten their forever?

MELT By Shaya Roy
Blurb:
Newlyweds in an arranged marriage, Naina and Dev go to the mountains of Shimla, India in search of snow. Unfortunately, they find fifteen inches more than they expected.
Being snowed in with her husband is not necessarily a bad thing. It gives Naina an excellent excuse to snuggle up to her deep, quiet man, but every time Dev spurns her, a little more of her heart drips away. Melting the ice around her husband’s heart before the snow outside does might take more pride than Naina’s ready to surrender.

ONE IN A MILLION SNOWFLAKES By Michelle Ziegler
Blurb:
Angela is in love with someone she can never have–her best friend, Rebecca’s older brother.

Stranded in the bitter cold after a disastrous blind date with yet another company Christmas party looming, a standing offer from the boss’ nephew gets a little more appealing. Desperation. Not a good sign. Surely when Rebecca rescues her from the blinding snow, she can also convince Angela to just go to the party alone. She can always count on her best friend.

That is, as long as she never finds out about Angela’s secret crush.

AN UNEXPECTED WREATH By Annabelle Blume

Blurb: Stella’s got everything she needs in life: a great job, a beautiful house, and her independence. But on last minute trip to the local Christmas tree lot she finds something, or rather someone, she desperately wants – Grayson. An emergency trip to Target, an unexpected wreath, and a little Christmas magic make the season much brighter.

SANTA BEBE By Lily Carlyle

Blurb: Disillusioned by men and her belief that they see her only as an object, Bebe is determined to find a man with money. Her geeky, but unfailingly kind, next-door neighbor James tries to convince her of the possibility of real love, even as she reveals to him the troubled childhood that made her so cynical about relationships. When her mother dashes her hopes for a perfect Christmas, Bebe finds herself turning to James once again, and in the process, learning a lot about herself and the promise their relationship holds.

Rewriting and a New Release

I can’t not mention my new release! It’s officialy out today. Please stop by the blog tour every day for some entertaining interviews and excerpts!

Now on to today’s post.

This post might be somewhat of a benefit for those that did NaNoWrimo.

When you have a manuscript that is written, what do you do next? I have a manuscript that I wrote and it was accepted for publication; that’s a good sign right? Well not really. The publisher is no longer around, which is why the story never saw the light of day. The story was written for a specific niche and has a lot of tell not enough show. The editing process was going to be brutal.

balI found a new purpose for this story.  I think it would fit somewhere new, but I have to do a lot of rewriting though.  I need to fix the issues I know it has.  It’s scary.  What should I do.  Edit the story as it is?  Or start over from scratch?  I think the obvious is, why reinvent the wheel.  I sometimes get too caught up in the current words to do a good rewrite. This is where I need to stop and remind myself that editing is simply that.  Rewriting, fixing, and adding to the existing manuscript.  As long as you are keeping the bones of the story, the first round of editing should be less daunting.

My next hurdle is how to keep myself streamlined.  Does anyone else have ideas somewhere on page fifty and realize they need to go back to page three or worse, page one hundred, to fix a few details?  That’s where I start to get side tracked.  I am starting a notebook of these problems. Making a general statement of where I think something will need to be added or changed.  The best idea of all is to turn on tracked changes and add comments.  Editors use track changes all the time these days.  Thank you technology! Granted I still have a love affair with sticky notes.

Really I am all ears.  What is your editing style on a finished manuscript or a first draft?  After you get the first rewrite or edit out of the way, the next round of edits don’t seem nearly as daunting, at least I don’t think.  It’s getting through that initial edit or the first complete rewrite.

Happy Monday and happy editing!
