The Lunatic Queen – Michael Siciliano
The first one bounded out of the fog as we reached the edge of Grosnov. It looked like a long, sleek man. Naked and hairy, it ran on all fours and powered itself with elongated feet attached to bony hocks.
A frightened whimper escaped my mouth when I saw its expression.
Wolf fangs extended from a stubby jaw. Black lips turned upward near the face, giving the creature a perpetual cruel smirk. A mottled, bushy brow hovered over close-set, intelligent eyes. Eyes that glowed a faint icy blue.
“Tamara,” I called.
A moment later, she was by my side. We each held one of Yerik’s knives, their tips pointed at the creature.
It wove from side to side as it advanced on us.
“Where do you think you’re going,” the beast hissed in a soft masculine voice.
“It talks,” Tamara said. Fear and awe mingled in her voice.
“Yes,” he answered. “It does.”
About Michael Siciliano
Michael lives in Delaware and is married with a six year old son. He dreams of having his own writing room some day and rarely shuts up about it. An epic fantasy series, told from multiple points of view, takes up a large proportion of his writing efforts, but he also enjoys writing short stories. He has been known to take writing breaks by constructing Lego castles complete with barracks, forges and stables. Legally blind since birth he naturally gravitates to interests that require acute vision. Reading would be impossible for him without his iPad, and therefore he is a strong proponent of eBooks and audio books. Playtime includes romping around with his son, reading, video games, TV shows, and movies. He lives and breathes speculative fiction, and believes that somewhere down his family tree, Lannister blood must have mingled with the Italian. His idols growing up were Don Mattingly and Dan Marino, but are now George R.R. Martin and Jon Stewart. Bed times average somewhere around 1:30am, and mornings are non-negotiable without strong coffee.
